NuVision 52LEDLP 1080p LED DLP announced

Nuvision52Indlpehx1

The 52-inch (52LEDDLP) unit will then be available come September and also, be showcased at this years CEDIA Expo. The unit is going to cost a few dollars more then the Samsung counterpart at $4,399. In case you are in need of a refresher, this DLP throws out the normal lamp in favor of a cluster of LEDs that will (hopefully) provide better color and a longer life with no brightness degradation. This technique will hopefully bridge the gap between the long life of a plasma/LCD and the low-cost, big-screen size capability of a DLP.

NEC PlasmaSync 61XR4G 61" plasma reviewed

3259-3

In many ways NEC is to be congratulated for the 61XR4G – not least for its pictures’ extreme sharpness, lack of noise and natural colours. In fact, if NEC could just sort out its black levels and light output next time round, we could be in for a real king-sized treat. For now, though, the 61XR4G will have to be content with a place in the big-screen plasma world’s second tier.

Mitsubishi WD-57731 DLP reviewed

706Mits.1

I would definitely prefer to see richer blacks and a more reassuring peak contrast ratio from a rear projection set than the Mitsubishi offers. I suspect that Mitsubishi's upcoming higher-end sets may offer both. But in all other respects Mitsubishi has hit a home run with the WD-57731. You won't see it at its best as delivered. But give it some attention by proper adjustment of the user controls and, even better, a good calibration, and watch your viewing time soar.

After a long and delayed wait (this was first shown off at the CES in January), Samsung have begun shipping their first 1080p high-definition DLP rear-projection TV using new LED technology. Instead of using a conventional single lamp and colour wheel, the system uses a postage-stamp sized LED lighting array made up from 6 each of red, green and blue.

Marantz VP-11S1 1080p projector

Vp11S1Frontprodlarge

Well it seems as if Marantz is ready to deliver DLP’s answer to 1080p front projection, the VP-11S1 is scheduled to be available to consumers in July, for a suggested retail price of $19,999. I had hoped that DLP’s first forays into 1080p front projection would offer Sony’s VPL-VW100 a run for its money. But with the Marantz (and others) coming in at nearly twice the price, I suppose the only real competition in the Ruby’s price range will be the Optoma HD81 or possibly Sim2’s HT3000.

This range of computers is designed to allow users to view HDTV signals in real time via either DTT (Freeview) or satellite reception. And it's available now, while your Sky HD box is probably not even built yet, the company says.

The secret behind the box is a trial HD service from the BBC, which is being authorised purely on a test-the-technology basis by Ofcom. It's broadcast from London's Crystal Palace transmitter, or as an alternative, there's another transmission from the Astra 2D satellite. As the BBC isn't making it commercial, it's unlikely that you'll see full-colour adverts for this in all the Sunday magazines.
